About Us

The Waiheke Land Care and Pest Management Trust was incorporated as a Charitable Trust in September 2003.

Our objective is to control predators of native birds on Waiheke Island.

As our goal is to keep birds safe, our trading name is “Birdsafe”.

We are proud to be an independent Waiheke charity, registered under the Charities Act 2005: registration number CC29768.

The current trustees have backgrounds in environmental work, conservation and NGO management.  Phil Tarr runs Waiheke Pest Services (WPS) and was instrumental as a Dotterel Guardian on the island for many years.

Dan Beauchamp has a degree in Parks and Recreation. He has been a Park Ranger, involved with Whakanewha Regional Park, since its inception in 2000.

Katherine Mason has a management background in Non-Governmental Organisations and a strong interest in conservation.  In fact, Dan and Katherine first met at a public meeting, at Surfdale Hall, partly organised by Mike Lee, on how to kill rats!

Mike Lee was a founding trustee of Birdsafe, along with Julia Meek and Tony Agar.   Please do check out our history  and  what we do.

If you are interested in joining the committee, or coming to meetings,  we would love to hear from you.  Please do contact us.
